Alexander Feht was born in 1961 near the Siberian city of Novosibirsk in
Russia. He received formal musical education (piano, violin, musical theory and
composition) but considers himself to be mostly self-taught. In 1987 he
emigrated with his wife and son to the United States as a political refugee. He
currently earns his living as a translator, and writes Russian poetry and music
in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.
The astute observer of contemporary classical music cannot help but note that,
the more modern composers give their all to "atonal" or
"experimental" schools of composition, the more listeners are driven
to archival recordings of great works. There is today a hunger for music that,
as in times past, satisfies the soul with melody, tonality, and harmony.
Trained in the appreciation of the classics, Mr. Feht's work offers a pleasing
alternative to most modern composition.
